Verizon Motorola Droid 2 Getting Ready to Arrive on August 23 [Motorola Prepares Droid 2 for August Arrival; Motorola Droid X Who?]
The Motorola Droid 2 is probably the next hot Android device coming to Verizon, but will it be able to beat the Motorola Droid X? Earlier today we’ve shown you new pictures of the Droid 2 in action and it looks like we have more proof to support the rumor that the Droid 2 is coming in August.
Verizon is said to start selling this new Android Motorola handset on August 23 and the leaked picture below seem to indicate that manufacturing is on schedule. The image here comes from a packaging facility that’s handling the future Droid 2 boxes but there’s no official confirmation for that arrival date.
The phone is expected to cost $199 with a new 2-year contract with Verizon, probably after a $100 mail-in rebate while the off contract price is currently said to be $599, although these numbers aren’t coming from Motorola or Verizon at this point. The phone is rumored to ship with a 8GB microSD card on board, but that’s also a detail that needs to be confirmed in the very near future.
Will the Droid 2 be better than the Droid X? That’s still to be decided although, at this time, the Droid X seems to be the favorite handset to win such a battle. The Droid 2 will bring you a powerful 1GHz processor, a 5-megapixel camera, 3G mobile hotspot feature and a full QWERTY keyboard. The Droid 2 is said to be very similar to the original Droid so it will therefore come with a smaller touchscreen display than the Droid X but will offer a slide-out full QWERTY keyboard. What would you rather have? A larger touchscreen display or a handy keyboard to help you type fast messages and emails on the go?
We’ll return with more news regarding the Droid 2 in the near future, as an official announcement should arrive at some point in the following weeks.
